Dressing postpartum, phase by phase

The postpartum period isn’t one season — it’s several, and they ask different things of your clothes.

The first weeks

Access and softness lead. You’re healing, possibly feeding around the clock, and getting dressed happens one-handed at 4am. Prioritise pieces that open easily, layer without fuss, and feel kind against skin. Set aside anything that needs steaming, careful closures, or a mirror.

The middle months

Days develop a rhythm; the nappy bag gets lighter. This is when line comes back into the conversation: with the basics working, you can start choosing silhouettes that sit in harmony with your frame — your Kibbe lines never went anywhere.

Later

Function loosens its grip and preference leads again. Rebuild deliberately: a few pieces that carry your line well beat a rack of maybes.

Feeding and weaning, whenever they happen

These overlay every phase rather than following them. While feeding, access shapes necklines and closures; through weaning, comfort through the chest matters more than any rule about line. Function beats line, always — that ordering is built into every recommendation we make.

Questions we actually get

Do I need to buy a whole new wardrobe?

No. Each phase usually needs a small number of workhorse pieces; the guide flags what's worth buying now versus waiting on, because sizes and days keep shifting.

Is this about maternity clothes?

Not only. Some maternity pieces keep earning their place for months; the point is choosing by function and line, not by the label's category.

The quiz is on its way

We're building a gentle questionnaire that reads your lines the Kibbe way and works with your actual postpartum days. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment it's ready — nothing else, ever.
